Myrewyn Property and Facility

I purchased a home in a beautiful farming community just south of Hillsboro in November, 2006.  Our setting is completely rural but downtown Hillsboro and the Sunset Corridor are only minutes away.

Owning a farm is definitely a work in progress and with nearly twenty acres to deal with it can be somewhat overwhelming at times, but the initial focus was getting a barn and indoor arena constructed.  I chose to have our buildings designed and manufactured by Cover-All Building Systems because their steel and fabric buildings let in natural light, are cool in summer, and are much less noisy in the rain than traditional steel barns and arenas. In August, 2007 the horses were finally able to move into their beautiful new stalls!

The barn has 14 matted stalls with attached paddocks and low, European-style fronts, a wash rack (soon with hot water), tack room for lesson horses and boarders, three grooming areas, and a lounge for parents who are waiting during their child's lesson.  I have many additional plans for the barn -- my children and students know this as the "eventually" list!  For now the barn is lovely and bright and cozy and the horses all seem very happy in their new home.

The beautifully bright indoor arena is 72' x 144'.  Footing is currently sand/dirt but plans are in place to put in crumb rubber footing when finances allow.  We also have a 90' x 150' outdoor riding and jumping field for more advanced riders.  Plans are also being made for a small cross-country jump course.

Myrewyn Equestrian aims to have a low impact on the environment.  Our bright Cover-All buildings mean that we don't have to use lights during the day, saving substantially on energy use.  Only plants and trees with low water requirements are being chosen for the landscaping so that the only watering we need to do is in the arena for dust control.  No pesticides are used anywhere on the property (other than routine worming for the horses and flea control for the dogs and cats) and the use of herbicides is extremely minimal.  Beneficial wildlife such as snakes, spiders, barn swallows, bats and dragonflies are welcomed in the barn and on the property -- please do not disturb them!
