In addition to regular lessons, we offer some fun additional activities which students may participate in on an optional basis.

Horse Shows

Showing opportunities are available for almost all levels of riders.  Riders who are able to walk and trot in a group and who know their posting diagonals are ready to show in the beginner classes.  Shows are a lot of fun but also hard work so any student who is interested in showing must first travel with us to a show to watch and help so that they are aware of how shows work and what will be expected of them.  We compete at hunter shows, jumper shows, and horse trials (dressage, stadium jumping and cross-country) and most shows are within an hour or so driving distance from our barn.

Students who wish to show must demonstrate dedication to learning their sport in order to be able to compete with us.  As a rider advances up the showing levels I will require an increasing commitment to fitness which can only be achieved through time "in the tack".

Riders competing....                                    Must...

On the flat                                                  be in regular weekly lessons

Over fences up to 2'3"                                 be in two lessons per week

Over verticals of 2'6" to 2'9"                         ride at least three times per week*

In recognized divisions at 3' and up               ride at least four times per week*

* at least two rides per week must be a lesson

Because showing over fences is hard on horses and each horse only has so many jumps in them, my lesson horses may only be shown up to 2'9".  The lesson ponies may be shown up to three inches below their pony hunter height so smalls may be shown up to 2', mediums may be shown up to 2'3", and larges may be shown up to 2'9".  If you wish to progress beyond these heights I will be happy to help you find a horse or pony to purchase or lease.

Field Trips

A couple times a year we take field trips to nearby high level shows so that students can see these riders and horses in action.  Popular field trips include the Country Classic (Wilsonville), a prestigious hunter/jumper show, and Dressage at DevonWood (Sherwood), one of the largest dressage shows in Oregon.

Day Camp

By request, we are now offering a couple sessions a year of pony day camp for children 8-12 years old.  Sessions are small with no more than six campers each week, and children learn what it takes to have a pony of their own.  We also ride, do crafts, and have a great time!

Information regarding 2010 camp sessions will be available early in the year.  There will likely be one beginner camp and one advanced camp for riders ready to learn and perform a quadrille.  Contact me for more information or to request a registration form.
